The City of Milwaukee, Wisc., completed the Port of Milwaukee Wind Turbine project, which began in November 2011. Kettle View Renewable Energy assisted with installation of the 100-kilowatt (kW) Northwind100 wind turbine, with final commissioning completed by WE Energies. The wind turbine is located next to the Port of Milwaukee’s administration building.

Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport and SunPower Corp. dedicated a 5.4-MW solar installation located atop the airport’s facilities. SunPower designed and built the solar installation, and will operate and maintain the solar system through a solar services agreement with the airport. The system is expected to generate about 51 percent of the electricity demand at the airport’s rental car center, two East Economy parking garages and toll plaza.

ChoosePAWind provides information on current retail energy suppliers offering new, Pennsylvania wind renewable energy certificates. Choose PA Wind seeks to expand the state’s wind portfolio by providing information about the economic and environmental benefits of wind power. ChoosePAWind also provides businesses and consumers with information about what companies and institutions are investing in wind power throughout the state.

The City of Beaverton, Oregon announced that its Solar Beaverton program has facilitated 258 solar installations over the past two years, exceeding the city’s expectations. Following a successful 2010 pilot program, Beaverton developed Solar Beaverton in March 2011 through a partnership with Livelight Energy. The program simplifies the process of installing solar panels, allowing residents to utilize state and federal financial incentives, while expediting the solar permitting processes.

Eastern University (PA) has partnered with Community Energy to extend its 100% green power commitment for seven years. The university has purchased 100% of its electricity from wind RECs since 2006 and is now committed to purchase 100% green power through at least 2018. Community Energy will supply a portion of the university’s renewable energy generation through solar RECs from a 6-MW solar facility in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, which is planned for 2012.
