Campbell Soup Company has completed a 9.8 megawatt photovoltaic system at its manufacturing facility in Napoleon, Ohio. The solar system will generate the equivalent of 15 percent of the facility’s annual electricity demand. BNB Renewable Energy Holdings developed the project in partnership with Campbell, and Campbell will purchase 100 percent of the array’s generated power. FirstEnergy Solutions has contracted to purchase the solar renewable energy certificates generated by the project.

On June 1, Green Mountain Energy Company began offering renewable energy products to Pennsylvania residents. Green Mountain is offering its Pennsylvania customers a choice between two residential offerings, each providing Green Mountain’s customers with 100% renewable energy. One product offers electricity generated by local wind and water resources, and the other product offers electricity generated by local wind and solar resources.

The Philadelphia Phillies have agreed to purchase 22 million kilowatt-hours of solar and wind renewable energy certificates (RECs), which will equal 100 percent of the Major League Baseball team’s electricity demand for a period of two years. The REC purchase stems from the team’s “Red Goes Green” initiative, which started with the team’s enrollment in the Environmental Protection Agency’s Green Power Partnership program in 2008.

The Electric Reliability Council of Texas reports that voluntary renewable energy certificates (REC) retirements in 2011 again outpaced voluntary REC retirements for the fourth consecutive year in the state of Texas. Voluntary REC retirements grew by 29 percent in 2011 over 2010’s numbers, and grew by 45 percent in 2010 over 2009’s numbers.

180 citizens of Iowa, organized under the name Green Energy Farmers, aged to purchase of six 1.6-MW GE wind turbines. The new turbines will add to the community’s existing two 1.5-MW turbines, bringing the community wind farm to a total of 12.6 MW of capacity.
